Question : Is there a timeclock hardware / software system without monthly fees?
I have a Wide Area Network and would like to make a one time purchase of a timeclock system. I’m not interested in monthly fees to a third party. I just need to be able to assign an IP address to a timeclock, let my employees punch in/out, and let my own server/software poll that clock at a reasonably interval.

Anybody know of a product to fit these needs?
Dennis, you are a fool. Plain and simple. If you had over 15 years in the business, as I do, you’d know the last place to go is the local store that has 2-3 products of this type at best. Plus, the local store is populated with “Qualified” technicians, like you, that like to use the word “Qualified” twice, to prove they should be working at a real business instead of a strip mall. However, their people skills keep them at the mall. Enjoy your pretzel on your break while studying for your Aplus.

Unfortunately, all the time clock manufacturer’s are fairly draconian when it comes to their hardware and software. Lathem even goes so far as to require people installing their software to call in and get an activation key despite it only working with their own hardware.

All the timeclock software I’ve come across is buggy and requires certain tweaks and calls to technical support to work the kinks out.

If ever there was an industry that requires more competition and innovation it’s the computerized time clock industry.

The 3 that I’m aware of are:

Lathem
Acroprint
Kronos

To my knowledge there isn’t one that sells a package out the door flat-rate wthout some sort of service agreement (because you will be calling them for support). Lathem has a package that doesn’t incur a monthly charge but that’s dependent on how many users you have, and the support level you buy.

So, you want to computerize your time management? Welcome to the 4th level of hell. Enjoy your stay. :-D

Question : How to kill termites without a professional doing it?
I recently found evidence of termites in my garage. Only in one area however. I realize just because I can’t see evidence anywhere else it doesn’t mean they aren’t everywhere.
Tenting my house is too costly at this time , I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a product to purchase that would kill them, I’ve read about Boracare and it sounds effective, not sure if there is something better out there. If anyone has any information please respond, I will take any information positive or negative. Thank You !!!

Have you tried alternative milks such as soy milk? YOur baby’s gas is from not being able to digest the milk. could be lactose intolerance. In that case try lactaid or simple probiotics that you can find in any health food store in the refrigerated section. I like Jarrowdolphius + FOS the best cause it has 11 probiotics and the FOS lets only good intestinal flora eat it and the bad intestinal flora can’t utilize it so they all just die out. You can buy it on line at health food store sites also.

Question : Need help with painting studio lighting – daylight balance without glare?
I am setting up a home paint studio. The room already has a light fixture – a ceiling fan that I would like to keep. I replaced the incandescent bulbs with daylight-spectrum (6500 k) compact fluorescent bulbs to have more balanced light in the room.

But I am having a problem with glare on the canvas. I do oil painting. The ceiling fan has open light covers (not globes). I looked for replacement light covers but the ones on this fixture seem to be a non-standard size (neck size 3 and 1/4 inches).

Now I am looking for a compact fluorescent bulb in daylight temperature (6500 k) that is frosted or covered. I can’t find one however. Please post a link if you know of a good one that can be purchased from a reputable on-line store or national chain.

Question : Is it ok to stain a fence without powerwashing it first?
My husband found out from a local contractor how to stain the fence. However, he did not powerwash the fence first. Would anything happen if a fence is stained but now powerwashed first?

If there was dirt or other debris on the fence, it would not accept the stain the same way the wood does. This would be apparent after the stain dries.

Question : Can I setup a raid system with three drives without formatting?
This seems like it will work, but I’m not sure. I was going to get 2 more drives to create the first raid. Then I am going to use a program like ghost to copy everything on it, and boot from it. When thats finished I was going to add the original drive into the raid setup. Does this sound like it would work?
I am getting two more drives that are the same as the one I have now.

If and only if you have a RAID system that allows you to create a RAID in a degraded state or that allows you to hot expand it. This is a feature normally found only on high-end RAID controllers.

I do not know how to get off a chair lift correctly. What’s the secret? Everytime I ride it, when it’s time to get off, I just fall off. I’m using a snowboard by the way. Not skiis.

I was just skiing today. This might/might not work for boards, but here’s two things to try.

I scoot forward a bit when I’m approaching the platform, because otherwise when I stand up, the edge of the chairlift pinches the back of my legs. When the chair is on the platform, I wait just half a second, until the ground is just starting to fall away a bit, Then I stand up and slide down the hill.

I know snowboarding needs more balance than skis, so I’d say practice going sideways on the board, rather than one end or the other first. This will make it easier for you to get off the lift and slide down out of the way.

Otherwise, try turning towards the center of the lift, so that one end of the board is leading when you get off the lift, and try sliding off with one end first.
