I try to install a ceiling fan. Fan has 4 son of the species (including neutral). The cover 7 son coming out. Three bundles are a further three are together, as he séparé.Quand one I put the fan is bundled, I have connected the two son hot (fan and light) of the fan unit to a number three son, the ceiling while I do all the white wire the fan connected to a different set of three fils.et left the one wire coming form the ceiling fan and light long.Le works well except I can not control the operation of wall switch and on / off the light / fan unit can even même.Qu did I do wrong? black fan and connect the fan to the black. Black’s move a leg. If this is still a problem, call a qualified electrician to do the work.

Question : how can I test to see if my new (old) home’s wiring for exterior lighting still works?
The lamp doesn’t work, but before I go to Home Depot to pick up a new one, I want to make sure that the circuitry is still functional. What’s the easiest (and least painful:) way to check?

Get either a cicuit tester or a Volt/multimeter. Those should be pretty painless.

Question : Where can I find a wiring diagram for the controls on a hydronic heating system?
I have a hydronic heating system (with two zones) in my house and the control wiring looks very questionalbe, I recently purchased the house and I think the previous owner tried to by-pass or repair it, at any rate there are wiring nuts and electrical tape everywhere and it does not look professional at all. I want to start for the beginning and see if can check the system out. To do that I need to start with a controls wiring diagram, does anyone know where I can find that info on the web?

Check the Internet and go to the manufacturer site to see if they have one available at their website. Often they will either have actual diagram on the website or contact information to get the diagram.

Killer deal on a Mitsubishi Mr Slim Air Conditioner (18K BTU) in the box…but I have a mobile home with a (100 amp) 110v circuit at the drop. Is it possible to change the existing wiring to use the 220v A/C?

I recently switched from traditional landline phone to Vonage cable internet phone. However, my home security system can not communicate with the monitoring station as a result of disconnecting the phone line. How could I rewire my home phone wires to make my home security system work with the internet phone?

You can’t. Your alarm will not communicate through Vonage, or any voip phone service, except maybe your local cable company. You will have to purchase a GSM cell radio for wireless communication, or go back to a land line phone.

I am installing low voltage lighting and have a couple of questions: I’m working both with 4 watt and 11 watt tiered path lights. I plan to use the 11 watt fixtures on corners and at steps. How far apart should I space the 4 watt fixtures along the path? Also, can I change out the 4 watt bulbs with 11 watt bulbs if some areas need extra lighting? Is it true that I can pierce the low voltage cable and if I’m not happy with the location, that it is OK to remove the fixture and place it elsewhere (meaning the cable is really self sealing?) I have about 240 watts of lights to be controlled by a 300 watt transformer, on 12 gu cable, and the run is approximately 150 feet. Should I run two, 75 foot cables to the transformer, or have one long 150 foot cable to it?

Wow a lot of questions – lets see.
If the area is very dark space the lighting 6 to 10 feet. Are you running them on both sides of the walkway or one? I would stagger them if on both sides – evenly.
Look at the light itself and it will tell you the max rating for a bulb, without knowing the brand I would be guessing.
If you spike the cable and move the light, just wrap electrical tape around the wire where the holes are. Self sealing may occur but weather wears out anything that gets pitted – even plastics.
If all the lights are in a row run one cable not two, if you are running down each side run two if the transformer is located central. The least amount of cable run is best.

Question : Do you need separate light kit power wiring when installing a ceiling fan?
Installing a hugger fan and light kit to replace a light fixture in a room. There is only one switch for the light. Once the fan is installed the light switch will activate power to the fan. The light kit will plug into the fan motor.
Will I require another set of power wiring and a switch in order to take advantage of the light kit? Can one set of wiring run both?

You can run both off the wiring you have. What you describe is the most common way to install a fan and light.

Question : Do all range hoods have wiring on the same side?
I just bought a new range hood (non venting) and was dismayed to discover that the wiring on the hood is on the right side and the existing wiring for the old hood comes in on the left side. I really don’t want to deal with moving the existing wiring and creating a new junction box. How likely is it that I will be able to find another hood that has the wiring on the left side like I need it? I didn’t know if maybe all hoods nowadays have wiring on the right side as standard.
