serious inquires about Caribbean weddings, please?
0Question : serious inquires about Caribbean weddings, please?
i really want to have a wedding in the caribbean. i live in NJ and don’t want to go too far. i was thinking of St. Thomas. has anyone ever been married there? do you know of any nice hotels in st. thomas that i can be married? i was looking at the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef and Morning star. is it any good?if not, where in the Caribbean have you been married? Do you know any one who has been married in the caribbean?i would like to know how much it costs (roughly). i should also mention that i’m planning on inviting over 70 people ( i know call me crazy) but we both have big families. this is why i don’t want to go very far. (6 hours from Newark air port max).i heard of sandals and breezes, they don’t allow children so that won’t work out. on top of that, our guests will not be staying for 6 nights. to be honest, i planned on having them fly in on Friday and fly out on Sunday
please help me. i know the question is lengthy, but i really would like some help. thanks so much.
P.S. if you know any good deals let me know ![]()

My sister is getting married at St Thomas in April.
Consider a cruise ship wedding. That might be cheaper. There are lots of hotels on St Thomas. Many people may want to book their own lodging since it may be cheaper to stay at Best Western.
Also Sandals is adult only but Beaches (their sister resort) is not.
Check out reviews on tripadvisor for different hotels. Frenchman’s Reef is close to downtown. I don’t know if that’s what you are going for or not. It is close to the shopping but it is on the busier side of the island. You may rather be on the Meghan’s Bay side. There are some great resorts that are expensive though–Elysian comes to mind.
My sister is getting married on Limetree Beach (now called Bluebeard’s Beach). We are using Islandweddingservices.com for our wedding planning and have been very pleased with them. They respond quickly to emails.
The most expensive thing I noticed was the flight to St Thomas. Check sidestep.com for your area but for us it would be close to 1,000 per person for round trip flight. Also time of year. The best time (aka cheapest) time to go to St Thomas is prior to may or hurricane season (October-Nov). But you may not want to go during that time as there is always the chance that a hurricane might ruin your whole week.
A wedding in St Thomas is rather cheap. We are spending less than 3000. No one will fly down Friday and back Sunday though. That would be spending close to 3,000 to come to your wedding without enjoying any time on the island. Invite 70 definitely but as it’s a destination wedding do not expect that many to come. If they cannot afford the week vacation there, they are not going to come for the wedding alone. It’s just too expensive of a flight.
Jewish Weddings- Who can sign the Ketubah? Males only? What makes it legal?
4Question : Jewish Weddings- Who can sign the Ketubah? Males only? What makes it legal?
ketubah

Answer by allonyoav
The Ketubah has to be signed by two kosher witnesses- that means males over the age of Bar Mitzvah- that are shomer shabbos and mitzvot.
There are certain minimum stipulations it must have it – such as the names of the couple, the place of the wedding and a few others. It also states that the wedding is according to the laws of Moshes v’Yisrael (a stipulation that carried a lot more legal significance when there was a sanhedrin- as they could use the stipulation to annul a marriage in exceptional situations- nowadays this is generally never used). In most communities they insist in a secular anti-nuptial contract as part of the wedding preparations to cover the legal side that used to be covered by the Ketubah in case of divorce.
Edit: Some corrections to some of what people have stated below from the Orthodox Jewish point of view:
1) The women should NOT sign the Ketubah
2) The witnesses do NOT have to be Rabbis, just observant Jewish men (I am not a Rabbi but have been a witness for two of my friends).

Most memorable parts of weddings you have been to?
11Question : Most memorable parts of weddings you have been to?
I am trying to think of the most memorable thoughts I have had of past weddings – was it the meal, the dress, the attire, the dance, etc. I am using it to give me and idea what to focus on and what areas people don’t give a hoot if that aspect is even there (monogramed napkins, china, wedding favors)! What one or two aspects do you remember the best? The invites, meal, centerpeices, DJ??? I would like specifics please! Thank you!
Pal: we are both educated professionals with the house!

probably the food and music. women will be scouting the decor and dress to get ideas or compare with their own. and because we’re competitive and want to critique everything. Men tend to not care as much about anything pertaining to a wedding, except the liquor/open bar, food and music. Since the wedding is mostly to celebrate the couple, the things you notice most will most likely be the farthest things from your guests’ minds.
people will remember things that involved them -like the reception and dancing. If you have great food and music, as well as some nice decor, i think everyone will be happy. you can even leave room on the invitation for people to return to you with song requests for the wedding
Resort Weddings?
7Question : Resort Weddings?
My fiance and I want an Island wedding, preferably Maui, but we fell it is too much to ask of our guests. We have done some research on renting vacation rentals that would hold about 25 people and us covering that and having our guests just pay for airfare, but that air is still so expensive. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it more affordable for our guests? Is there some kind of package deals for so many people?
