Gamma Knife Surgery
0The Gamma Knife uses a approach known as stereotactic radiosurgery that beams numerous rays of radiation in 3 dimensions to concentrate on a little volume, for example a tumor. This enables for safe delivery of the radiation. Physicians at a brain tumor clinic can use a computer to determine their targets for this treatment. They’re able to then fine-tune the place of remedy till the optimal dose can be determined and delivered.
You’ll find a number of people that make up this multidisciplinary medical team. You will possess a medical radiation physicist, a radiation oncologist, along with a neurosurgeon, that are all trained especially to utilize the Gamma Knife. The medical physicist tends to make positive that every one of the imaging and remedy plan computers are set to an acceptable level. Each and every particular person on the team does their aspect to make sure a secure treatment procedure.
The advantage of employing the Gamma Knife is that it really is noninvasive brain surgery; there exists no require for an incision, so the chances of infection and hemorrhaging are significantly decreased. The tumor that is certainly treated receives the maximum dosage of radiation with tiny risk to any nearby tissue. Also, the Gamma Knife is able to cease tumor growth in about 90-95% of all sufferers. This really is an incredibly very good figure.
When you have Trigeminal Neuralgia, you’ve got pain around the cranial nerves near the base of the brain. With Trigeminal Neuralgia radiosurgery, which involves using the Gamma Knife, you’re placed into a helmet-like Gamma Knife apparatus. The radiation comes out from the helmet itself. This generally will take about 4-5 hrs and then the patient spends the night and goes house the following day.
The Gamma Knife is actually a miraculous way of treating brain tumors in a non-invasive and constructive method to make certain the recovery with the biggest quantity of sufferers probable.gamma knife surgery

I had a friend with three of these (he had aggressive ones, that may not be the case with you, so do not judge yourself by this case).
He opted for surgery. There are pros and cons for both radiation and surgery for any tumor.
Radiation is no cutting. That means no risks from anesthesia. But it also means they are not “seeing” the lesion with eyes. Radatiation also leaks, a little, to neighboring structures and so if the beam is not placed right, there can be damage to good areas. There is damage where the beam passes as well. I do not know about the breast milk. Also, gamma knife may take months to years to work – it is not immediate.
As for surgery, there is anesthesia risks, but in the hands of a skilled surgeon (did you know there is a clinic in CA just devoted to these tumors only?), surgical risks are reduced and usually then there is no risk to surrounding tissue. The relief should be immediate. You do have recovery time with the surgery.
It is a big decision, based on your own case. But from what I know, those are things you can consider.
Is Gamma-Knife surgery a viable alternative to a craniotomy?
1Question : Is Gamma-Knife surgery a viable alternative to a craniotomy?
I have an optic chiasm tumor and I need to find out about treatment options. I am already scheduled for a craniotomy to surgically remove the tumor. But I am hearing about Gamma-Knife surgery and want to find out more. Is it a viable alternative?
Have made contact with a Gamma-knife surgery center here in Florida and hope to get a consult this week. The tumor is 13x9x12.8 mm in size originating in the chiasm and protruding into the left orbit.

Gamma knife seems like something you should look into, as it has fewer side effects if your tumor is a good candidate for the procedure. I don’t know whether the optic chiasm is a safe place for gamma knife surgery. It could risk permanent partial vision loss. Get a consultation with a gamma-knife specialist if you can.

Girls and boys – - from unnecessary genital surgery Intact America called American Academy of Pediatrics to protect all children

The founder and director of the Intact America, an organization that campaigned to the way America thinks about the circumcision of men must change, today demanded that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Centers recognize for Disease Control? s recent report shows, the rate of circumcision in the U.S. only 33% in 2009 and refuse to support the genital mutilation of children.
The AAP, the first in San Francisco October â fulfilled? 5, for its annual conference, is currently reviewing its position on neonatal circumcision is planned and its Working Group on circumcision to publish new recommendations in the coming months. â? Now is left intact with more than 60 percent of baby boys, and more and more Americans are not able to afford the necessary medical care, we can not understand how the AAP could be used for this operation generally useless â? Georganne Chapin, said Executive Director of America Intact.
Intact America will meet at the AAP conference with representatives of the AAP and remember that most American parents are currently choosing to keep her son unharmed. Intact America? S-state, physicians, information on ethical considerations and the medical risks associated with the circumcision of the child, and to obtain even the most frequently performed operation in the United States.
â? The shift in this country, â? Chapin said. â? Parents are increasingly aware that circumcision is unethical and wrong. Itâ? S America time? S reached pediatricians these “too.I ????
earlier this year suggested the AAPA Intact America? Call for a form of female genital mutilation legalized in women, a practice currently banned in this country and internationally recognized as female genital mutilation in the context of the oppression of girls and women. After thousands of protest e-mails delivered to the AAPA? S office with a campaign on the website Intact America, PAA has backed down and withdrew her statement.Intact America believes that the same right to an intact body, which should present the girls and boys will be extended. No medical authority recognized currently recommends routine neonatal circumcision men, known as the American Medical Association? Non-therapeutic.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has created a task force on circumcision, which is currently being formed to consider the AAPA? s neutral position newborn circumcision. The work force? The charge was apparently under the African Studies consenting adult men allegedly shown that circumcision play a role in transmission of HIV from women to men mitigation â? but not in men, women or men for men (the latter being always the most common procedure for the sexual transmission of HIV in the U.S.). Chapin noted that these studies are many methodological and ethical problems. â? Even if the results apply to adults in poor countries, where HIV prevalence is high, there is no evidence that circumcision of infants do not agree to the United States, where the rate of HIV infection is relatively low and the transmission different, for HIV to prevent â? News medical tourism in Asia had, in cooperation with Philippine Gamma Knife Center Gamma Knife surgery available to Filipinos. Philippine Gamma Knife Center has the state of the art facility and equipment to perform the operation. The center uses the electronic data imaging tests such as CT, MRI or angiography, to identify problems in the brain. Accordingly, the Philippine Gamma Knife Center kills cancer cells with multiple sources of gamma rays with unprecedented precision. With its precision in the sub-millimeter range Gamma Knife surgery, reduces the risk of damage to surrounding healthy tissue and minimizes brain exposure. Technology Gamma Knife surgery is recognized worldwide as preferred treatment for brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations and recognized brain disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia. It will be investigated by more than 2,500 medical research articles published primarily supported in neurosurgery journals. This fact, combined with published reports show that the Gamma Knife as an alternative to adjuvant therapy in the treatment of waste or recurrent lesions that were not removed by surgery used to be conventional brain tumor. Gamma Knife surgery is particularly useful for patients unsuitable for surgical techniques because of age, disease or high. In many cases of Neurosurgery, Gamma Knife is the only possible treatment. 0Gamma Knife surgery
is recognized worldwide as the preferred treatment for brain tumors, arteriovenous malformations and functional brain recognized as trigeminal neuralgia. It is used by more than 2,500 scientific articles from peers, which are published mainly in journals reviewed assisted neurosurgery. The Gamma Knife ® offers a noninvasive alternative for many patients for whom traditional brain surgery is not an option. Gamma Knife ® surgery removes the trauma and the majority of the risks associated with conventional surgery. This unique conference is an effective treatment stay in hospital overnight, but is often an outpatient surgery with a regular control. It has certainly proven the long term and is recognized and covered by insurance plans.
and Neurosurgery, Gamma Knife ® allows noninvasive brain operations are performed in one session and with extreme precision, sparing tissues adjacent to the target. On the basis of preoperative radiological investigations such as CT, MRI and angiography, the unit provides highly accurate irradiation of deep targets, etc. with a multitude of collimated beams of ionizing radiation with a precision of a scalpel.
Gamma Knife ® surgery
represents an important advance in brain surgery, and has in the past three decades, is changing the landscape in the field of neurosurgery. Its development has led to better treatment of neurosurgical patients with brain tumors and vascular malformations by providing a managed, secure, accurate and reliable alternative for treatment. Gamma Knife ® allows patients a non-invasive brain surgery without undergoing surgical risks, a long hospital stay and subsequent rehabilitation.
Like other
radiosurgery Gamma Knife ® surgery is unique in that no surgical incision is made to expose the brain, reducing the risk of surgical complications and the elimination of side effects and dangers of general anesthesia. Blades “Gamma Knife ® are gamma-radiation-programmed bar of the lesion, where they intersect target. In a therapy session, beams 201 from gamma rays to focus precisely on the lesion. Over time, most lesions reduce slowly in size and to solve. “exposure is short, and that the treated tissue, a significant dose of radiation is replaced, while the surrounding tissue remains intact.
Gamma Knife ® ADVANTAGES OF
Gamma Knife ® is a neurosurgical tool exclusively for the treatment of disorders of the brain develops.
The lesion treated receives a high dose of radiation with minimal risk to the surrounding tissues and structures.
The cost of a Gamma Knife ® procedure is often 25% to 30% less than traditional neurosurgery. Patient discomfort
little experience.
The lack of an incision eliminates the risk of bleeding and infection.
The hospital stay is short, usually overnight or outpatient surgery. Patients can immediately return to their previous activities.
Gamma Knife ® technology allows treatment of inoperable lesions. The procedure offers hope for patients who were previously not treatable or at high risk for open-skull surgery.
India will soon be the goal of global health politics. It is the Thai model, which was the first Asian destination for international patients to replicate. India has a large staff of world-class experts and the cost advantage, it is extremely competitive. Metro cities in India like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and he world-class health care facilities provide medical services to international patients seeking to have Gamma Knife surgery in India.
With prices a fraction of the U.S. or the European Union, the concept has broad consumer appeal. Indian private facilities offer advanced technology and high quality treatment at par with hospitals in western countries.
India is the promotion of “medical outsourcing” where subcontractors provide one for services to the overburdened medical care systems in western countries. Medical tourism in India is expected to grow by 20% per year. Most non-urgent patients from the West generally get a package, flights, transfers, hotels, treatment and post-operative vacation often heard. There are many brokers specialize in the Indian market.
