Question : What kind of exterior house paint do you recommend?
My mom is going to paint her house, and she was thinking about using Wal-Mart’s colorplace. Is this good paint? If not, can you explain why? What brand of paint would you recommend for good price and will still do a good paint job?

A couple of things must be known to answer your question:
1st, What is the house painted with now? Is it a latex or an oil base paint?,,If it’s latex, than any latex paint can be painted over it.
If it’s oil based, than there’s more to it. Oil based paints get hard over the years and getting new paint (either new oil based or latex) to stick may be a problem.

To get the latex paint to stick to oil based paint, you must break the hard surface of the oil based paint. To do that, you must sand that surface. That’ll take alot of work.

To get oil based paint to stick to the old oil based paint, there are 2 things you can do.
1 is to sand the surface and the other is to add a softening agent to the paint your putting on.The softening agent is put directly into the paint your putting on. A good paint store will know of this softenting agent- I’ve used something called “Peso” (pronounced Pa-so-like the Mexican penny)

As to where you buy the paint, Remember, Wall-Mart sells the cheapest products they can and I’ll bet the people in their paint dept. don’t know much about painting. I would go to Loew’s, at least there, if there’s a problem, they’ll stand behind their products and the people in the paint dept. didn’t just graduate from 8th grade. If you live in an area that has a Menards, DON’T BUY FROM THEM, THEY DON’T STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS no matter what the problem is.
