Question : GE Portable Room Air Conditioner is not cooling properly and drain bucket continues to fill every 2 hrs.?
I just bought a GE Portable Room Air Conditioner 8000 BTU’s yesterday at Sam’s. I am using it in an upstairs bedroom that is hotter than any other place in the house. It has been running for over 24 hours and it is STILL HOT!!! It is set on Maximum Cooling (High Cool & 61 degrees) I have to empty the fill bucket about every 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. It does have a drain port with a hose that I decided to put in a 5 gallon bucket for the water to drain into. It still has not drained into the bucket. Does the fill bucket have to be full first before it goes into the bucket?? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cool this room???? I just can’t believe it hasn’t cooled down any!! HELP!!!!

How do I properly vent a portable air conditioner in the attic?

Question : How do I properly vent a portable air conditioner in the attic?
Hi there:

I have a small work room up in attic that is insulated, wired, and completely sealed from the rest of my attic. I bought a portable air conditioner. There are no windows. Should I exhaust the a/c into the rest of the attic or vent it through the roof? Also, what should I use for an intake to bring in fresh air from the outside….just a second vent with a good screen and a fan to draw air in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try venting through the eaves, same with the intake. Don’t vent into the attic. You will be introducing more humidity than the attic needs and could ruin the support to your roof.

It depends on what size and type of A/C unit you have.

If you have a small window unit, then the answer is “Probably more than it would cost for a brand new A/C unit”.

If you have a large central air conditioning unit, then it’s hard to estimate without knowing more about the system, call a local A/C repair shop.

The same is true if it’s for a car — the cost to repair varies widely depending on the make/model of the car.

Help! My air conditioning in my apartment is not working and the maintenance man just won’t fix it properly?

Question : Help! My air conditioning in my apartment is not working and the maintenance man just won’t fix it properly?
I have a wall unit kind of thing in my studio apartment. It looks like a little furnace against the wall. No thermostat: only high medium and low dial and “Hot” and “Cold”.

Problem:

The maintenance man put a lot of gas in it (freon) but it still will not cool the apartment. When I put my hand up against it, sure its cold air, but it smells kind of weird and it doesn’t cool the rest of the apartment like it used to.

Any suggestions to on what the issue is? THANK YOU!

send a registered letter to the landlord politely describing the situation and asking them to make your air conditioner work correctly. don’t put any threats or rude language in. then send the letter by REGISTERED MAIL where they have to sign for it and you get a postcard back saying it was received. you have to go to the post office and fill out the green card to send a letter this way and it’s more expensive than regular mail. but this type of letter may get their attention. good luck.

Depending on the type of door that you install in your custom home, there are many different opportunities for operators. There are some things you should look at choosing the right system. Make sure the engine is capable of sliding / Custom swinging entrance gate. There are only a few manufacturers I would be out for a long life, and these companies stand behind there products with a warranty of 3 years. LiftMaster, Chamberlain, DoorKing and GTO.

If your door is a simple Swing Gate under 16 and iron-aluminum-I suggest using the LiftMaster LA 400 Single hinged door. With this operator you need 110V power supply ran to the door position. There is an option with this company, and allows you to convert the sun’s energy operator. This operator is compatible with many different remote controls for entry, and you can have a wireless keyboard with coded entry or entry phone / intercom program. If your door is made of aluminum / iron double swinging door, they make a 400 operator for the same LA with the same options.

If your door is a wooden swing GATE / it is almost double the weight you have to use a buffer MONTE operator with the ability to work with weight. All manufactured products I mentioned, these motors. It all depends on budget and what you prefer.

your sliding door will be asked if you need your iron-aluminum, you use a pad mounted sliding door automatic gate. For most applications, the operator of the lift film ROBO Master is one of the best that I would say to use, and you use, the operator of a wooden door that you need to pull hard enough to use, takes the limits of producing light.

Window Shades, Installed Properly, Sooth Noise In Your House

0

Window shades are a necessary element in a home, for most people. When looking for the right window shades, consider roller shades. These are highly versatile and can fulfill many needs in your home. They give you privacy, darken your rooms or filter light, insulate from heat or cold, and also act as noise reducers. Roller shades are a cheaper, yet effective means of attaining any or all of these objectives. In particular, if you live in an area that is very noisy – perhaps a railroad or a highway near, or barking dogs – you likely want something to reduce outside noise and make your home quieter. Why not use roller shades, which are both economical and effective, and also add to your home decor? You can also use these window shades in rooms of your home that you want to be quieter than other rooms. Perhaps you have a large living room, and want to decrease sound echoes. You may have a media room or a game room that you want more insulated from sound, so that outside noise doesn’t distract from the purpose for which you use the room. Whatever room or rooms you wish to be quieter, roller shades make a straightforward solution. However, you’ll need to find window shades of a heavier grade material, as lighter fabrics such as cotton or twill won’t serve your noise reduction purpose as well. This won’t limit you much, as there is a large variety of fabric types available that act as noise reducers. You can even find roller shades made of a thick burlap fabric, bamboo, or a multi-layered plastic with a fiberglass sheet core. It’s now possible to find roller shades in many color and style variations, so it will be simpler to match the shade to the colors and décor already in your home. There are three basic types of roller window shades – blackout shades, solar light filtering shades, and decorative shades. These days, with the advancement in the quality of roller shades, even the window shades with more practical purposes have aesthetic value. All of these types of window shades use a more effective and higher quality control system than the old-style spring loaded reverse mechanisms. Some window shades have a smoothly operating cord lift easily raised and lowered by a continuous cord loop. Roller shades can also be motorized, meaning that it’s possible to adjust your shade without pulling on the bottom of it. This means you can get the shade adjusted in the best way to suit the particular window it’s in, and certainly, the better the shade is fitted to the window, the more effective it is in reducing outside noise!Blackout window shades are generally made of a heavier grade material, or multi-layered plastic with a fiberglass sheet at the core. Because the material is heavier and thicker, it is effective in blocking noise along with the light. ‘Complete blackout’ systems are made not only with a fascia and a valance system, but also a side and bottom rail. These not only help block light more completely, but also sound. Solar window shades serve a practical purpose in blocking both light and sound, and offer UV protection, too. They reduce heat gain also. These roller shades are available in either room-darkening or simply light-filtering varieties. Whichever of these types of roller shades you choose, they will be even more effective paired with curtains or drapes. It’s possible to reduce outside noise level up to 80% or more! In addition to solving your noise issues, you will have also have window treatments that add to the décor of your home.

Understanding How to Laminate Floors Properly

0

A home makeover project often consists of trying to laminate floors as well, rather than just concentrate on walls and ceilings. This is because many guests will notice the state of your floors first, rather than the condition of your walls and ceilings? Face it, how many times has your next-door neighbor commented: Oh, what a lovely ceiling you have! But he may have noticed your floors enough to say: I think your floors need a bit of spit and polish to them.

Why is it important to laminate floors? The basic difference between laminate floors and wood floors is that laminate floors are protected from accidental liquid and food spilled onto their surface. They may look like hardwood floors but laminate floors are actually made up of different flooring substances bonded together into a hard surface that is covered with a final resin-covered cellulose finish that will prevent substances like liquids from permeating into the underlying layers. Wood floors may have a protective covering applied to them but are not made of the same substances as laminate floors. Laminate floors are also less expensive than hardwood flooring materials and may last longer under daily wear and tear.

The different types of laminate floors can be differentiated based on what material they simulate in appearance. This means you can buy laminate floors that mimic the great look of hardwood, granite, and even marble floors. But basically laminate floors are all made under the same principle of different flooring substances bonded together and covered with a durable protective coating.

When getting rid of old carpet and replacing with laminate floors, you have to remember that your carpet may be attached to the old flooring with staples, tack strips, and even glue. So removing the carpet will require patience, perseverance and time – as well as knowing how to get rid of all that dried glue. You will need special carpet knives to remove the carpet in segments (rather than attempt to pull off the whole shebang at one go – that’s simply not possible. ) The person cutting must be able to cut through the whole width of the carpet without damaging the underlying flooring (if that is to be retained. ) Your biggest enemies here will be fatigue, boredom maybe, and lack of skill on the part of the people removing the old carpet. This is why experienced contractors can command a better price for their services – they simply know better how to do the job compared to novices offering their services at cheap rates.

You will know where to put laminate floors by the condition of the underlying flooring (also called sub-floors or sub-flooring. ) If you find that there are parts of the house where the flooring has been warped or deteriorated due to water damage or severe wear and tear, those may be ideal places to install laminate floors. Basically, the function of the room will also help you decide where to put laminate floors and where to install other types of flooring. In flooring decisions, functionality should take precedence over image.
