Question : How much does a wedding planner generally cost?
I am interested in having wedding planner, but I am unsure if I can afford it. I don’t want to get ripped off either. Does anyone know how much wedding planners generally cost?

I work as a bridal consultant in a bridal store, and see planners all the time, and know several. Most planners operate a few different ways. What they charge is really based on what you want them to do. If all you want is someone there on the day of the wedding, accepting deliveries of flowers, linen rentals, cake, caterers, etc., that will be one charge. Most planners do offer some form of a “day of” service that they will charge a flat rate for. But, if you’re wanting a planner to meet with you, help you coordinate your look with bridesmaids, go to dress fittings, cake tastings, caterer tastings, coordinate flowers, lighting, dj, etc., then most planners will charge a percentage of the total amount spent on the wedding. The amounts they charge are also based on the amount of experience they have in the industry, but that’s not saying that someone who’s done this for years and years is going to be cost prohibitive. Location also pays a key role in what they charge–a planner in NYC is going to cost a heck of alot more for the same exact service than one in Laramie, WY.
What I would do if I were you is look at a few planners. Attend bridal shows/fairs, they’re always at those. Ask around with friends who have recently married, if they used someone and if so, who. Do a yellow pages search for wedding planners/coordinators and see what turns up. I would expect most decent planners would start their fees at around $ 1000 in most parts of the country, but maybe not quite that much. It really depends.

I am interested in networking with wedding planners in the area. I would like to do it by email. What are the things that I should bring up? Should I make it short and sweet? I was thinking about making a deal with them. Pictures of the wedding and $ 200 off the wedding package for the bride if she was referred by that particular wedding planner. Please give me ideas!!

I would really really to be a wedding planner. It is my absolute dream to plan peoples weddings for them and i think it would be a really rewarding job.
I don’t have a clue how i would begin a career in wedding planning though!
Is there any existing wedding planners out there that could share their experiences of becoming a wedding planner and maybe tell me a bit about the job?

I am a videographer (HDV) and cinematographer (super 8mm) for weddings based in Los Angeles, CA. I would like to work with a wedding planner in order to increase my portfolio. What’s the deal when a videographer works with a wedding planner in terms of money and contracts?

As a wedding planner, it is my job to make sure that all deposits and balances are paid. I am also able to keep you busy. If I like your work, I will use you exclusively for all my weddings, reunions and other functions. Together, we can work out rates where both of us are making money. For instance, if you normally charge $ 1200, we can arrange for you to charge $ 900 in return for my continued bookings. I would make the additional $ 300. I would also use you in all of my advertising and you would get a photo credit on my website. I would also have the list of all the people that the couple wants on film. There is nothing worse than missing special loved ones after the fact. Good Luck.

i would like to look into becoming a wedding planner, but i have no idea which classes to take or which type of college to take them at. if anyone lives in the Metro-Detriot area and knows about which school and classes i’m supposed to take please let me know. even if you don’t live in the area, could you let me know which type of classes to look into?

Lots of communuity colleges have wedding planner or party coordinator classes. However, I think that this may also be a trade of somesort. Just do your research on the net and it should give you a list of schools in your area that will help you get started. Good luck!
