Question : Pilot light not staying on on Carrier Furnace?
I have a Carrier furnace – model # 58PAV. It is intermittently going off. I turn it off and turn it back on and it starts right back up. It was doing it maybe once a week. Lately it has been doing it several times a day.Today I saw the pilot light try to ignite and it would not ignite.. What could be the cause of this and is it something that is costly to fix?

Also on the furnace I noticed there is a card that says IGNITOR REPAIRED 2-06. I moved in to this house in March of 06. The furnace is 6 yrs old. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Call the company that serviced the ignitor. Most HVAC service companies have a 1 year warranty on thier work and all parts have at least a 1 year warranty.

A high efficiency gas furnace, what is a redundant pilot ignition system-redundant being the key word here. What do they mean by redundant?

“A self-checking fuel ignition system of the pilot ignition type including a sampling flame sensor which effects periodic testing of the operability of a spark generating circuit to provide ignition sparks, and an energizing circuit which operates independently of the spark generating circuit but under the control of the flame sensor, to control the operation of fuel valves of the system and to effect the shut down of the system for loss of flame or ignition spark. “

Turned out that this was a pilot assembly issue. I cleaned it (as others had suggested), but then the problem got worse. After replacing the pilot assembly (0 part retail) the unit is running fine.

The pilot light won’t light my gas logs. How does it work?

We installed a new set of vented propane logs. The pilot light works fine; however, when turned on the gas flows through the pipes in the fireplace but won’t light. We can light the logs with a lighter but not with the pilot light. I’m not sure how the pilot light can reach the first hole in the pipe since it seems too far away. Any suggestions? Thank you
