Question : Is colonic irrigation helpful to long term constipation?
Ive been very badly constipated my whole life, practically from the day i was born. I go to the toilet maybe once a week if im lucky and even then it is not a decent amount.
Could having colonic irrigation help me get over this? Also how many treatments would i be likely to need?
If anyone could suggest anything else that would be useful – herbs, supplements etc it would be greatly appreciated, but please dont tell me to eat more fibre (does nothing at all) or go and see my GP

If you eat more fiber but don’t get adequate water, this could cause chronic constipation. How much fiber do you get? If it’s less than 20 grams, it isn’t enough. 30 is better.
Try adding some olive oil to your diet (make your own salad dressing with it). Add some prunes too.
Get exercise daily. Walking and running help move things along down there.
Colonic irrigation, whatever that is, is unnecessary, and potentially counter-productive and even harmful.

Question : Is is recommended to have a colonic irrigation while battling with diverticulitis?
I am a disabled senior and just recently began experiencing sharp pain in my lower left quadrant and found that I have diverticulitis (as did my mother). I have gone through 2 flareups, taken antibiotics and changed my entire diet (seems to help a great deal with bm’s), but am wondering if I should cleanout the entire system of buildup. I surely don’t want to opt for surgery if irrigation(s) will help and aren’t precluded by having diverticulitis. I surely don’t want to aggravate these pouches and chance rupturing them.
Anyone having any experience with either diverticulitis and its recommended diet, and/or colonic irrigations (high colonics), please advise and thank you all.
I’m waiting on test results of colonoscopy.

With a flare you need bowel rest. An irrigation could cause the flare to be worse. Continue with your dietary changes. If you are unsure about the diet or it doesn’t seem to be working ask your doctor for a dietary referral.

No. a GP doesn’t do colonic irrigation, they might recommend using an enema.
colonic irrigation kits can probably be ordered online – yahoo or google search. Might or might not be easy to use a home depending on bathroom size and configuration.

Question : How can I bring up the subject of colonic irrigation in a sensitive manner?
I recently won a voucher for a colonic irrigation at a health farm. I’m not going to let anybody go near that area so I was thinking of passing on the voucher to my mother-in-law. What’s the best way to broach the subject? Do you think she would be pleased to receive it?

I have a herd of dead cattle aching to rampage out of my intestines and a friend said that colonic irrigation is great, but I can only deal with doing it once. Any advice?

Go with a high fiber diet rather than colonic. You can end up with bowel problems that the “colonic trade” has no idea how to deal with. Best just let nature take it’s course.

I’ve had several. There haven’t been any problems, but it is sometimes a bit uncomfortable–especially because it’s a bit embarassing…but I had it down after my cancer to “clean out my innards”.

I am considering colonic irrigation and wonder if ordering an enema kit online is the same thing as going to a clinic who can do it for you? Also, how does it compare to herbal colon cleansers?

Sorry, but don’t believe the hype.
Colonic irrigation is a fancy word for “rip off”. You’re colon does not have compacted feces in it, because the colon is a smooth organ with a mucous membrane to keep the surface slippery. You crap out every iota of fecal matter that come into you colon.
Don’t even bother with the enema. You’ll poop out everything eventually anyway.
The only time you should worry about an enema is before a colonoscopy. Period.
