If you think your story is actually worth telling, get in contact with ONE reporter for your local paper, and speak with them about it, either in person or over the phone. If they think the story’s worth pursuing (not guaranteed), they’ll ask you more about it and interest in it will grow organically. Spamming papers or TV stations with a press release will get you nowhere. Even small papers get a few dozen releases a day. The ones that refer to an actual event of interest to the community are passed to the appropriate reporter. Anything else is trashed, especially if it’s generic, deals with crackpot conspiracy theories and/or we think you sent it to a few dozen other places.
