ah… I would go get a cheap plate and see if you can get through that with your drill without breaking it, it’s the same stuff, I would guess that you can’t. The surface tension on something like that is pretty high, at the very least you would split the paint/seal on the inside, and it wouldn’t be a pretty hole either.

Cast iron really can’t be drilled in the field. Is there any alternative to your project? Like can you make the connections off to the side of the sink, or under it? Or even go up through the wall behind the sink?
I do’nt think you’re going to get a hole in a cast iron sink.
Hope this was helpful, good luck!

It depends on what kind of hardware you are going to use…..If it’s just for the pipe itself 1 5/8″ should work, but you are going to have to put the drain in so i would get it first and see what size hole you are going to have to drill. but I would use a hole saw drill bit to make the hole. The mandrel that comes with it, will center the hole for you (Pilot bit).
But the thing is, if you use a wooden bowl it will rotten out really quick. I would think twice about using a wooden bowl……
Good Luck……..

Thanks for your help.
