I am beginning to sew, and although i am a size 4-6 in off the rack clothing, I find that I am a size 12 in patterns. I find this hard to believe. Is this difference in sizing normal?

Question : Dryer (Clothes Dryer) Repair or Replace?
Whirlpool c: 1992 It think it needa a heating element (or two, if there are two) . Also, the timer doesn’t pass the last line and shut-off… so it runs and runs. I’ll clean and lubricate to see if that fixes it. But… 15 years old, what do you think? New one?
I see there were several other “Dryer? Repair or Replace?” questions but I couldn’t resist burning a couple of points and asking for my own situation.

My dryer was 10 years old when I just got a new one. I was having to run the thing 2 sometimes 3 times to dry one load. I had someone come look at it,and they gave me an estimate of around 250.00$ So I just got a new one for not much more.
