i guess that what he is trying to say is that the outside influence of commersialzation has in a way bought about the demise of afro-american culture. with rock being taken from them and played by white artist, they effectivly delt a blow to the entire black community because there music was being played on the radio, but not by them. as R&B has developed over the years, there has been many insitances that have founded new and popular music coming from the black comunity, funk and hip-hop are 2 that spring to mind. Black artist are as strong now as they were before, but now the afro-american culture has been accepted world wide, therefore the culture in a sense hasn’t “died” but taken on a new role, as most anthropologist will say is the way that cultures survive in an ever changing world. i feel that demise is a strong word to be using, as you can’t go anywhere without seeing something of the black culture around.
