I met a young man who came to Maui last April for the summer and at the end of the extension of his break for another semester. He had literally hundreds of photos and videos of beautiful sunsets, friends enjoy good times, spectacular pools and waterfalls, you know, just all the great things that have to offer a vacation to one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Shortly before the end of his eight months on the island after a party that went into the early morning hours, he awoke to discover that his laptop had been stolen from the living room. He was really ticked about the violation of personal space, and compounded by the loss of his personal property.
But, he was absolutely devastated by the loss of all his photographs and videos of his stay on the island. You see, he had no backup system, be it card, CD, DVD, whatever. He had not saved it elsewhere, but on his computer. They were all just gone in an instant.
This made me think about how I feel think when I have all my photos: family lost my son at the various stages of 0-20 years, the places I’ve traveled and off of Maui, pre-and home project photos, etc. I realized that I back up my photos, at least not to mention all the other valuable information that I always on my computer.
I looked there in some of the methods, and discovered digital online backup. There are many advantages of this method because it will protect against loss, whether it is human, as in error, stupidity, laziness or crime. But beyond that there are forces of nature that may endanger the safety of your computer documents.
