I recently bought a king set of 300 TC Ralph Lauren bed sheets (100% cotton) and even after washing twice it was like sleeping on newspaper. Obviously even Ralph Lauren doesn’t know how to make quality bed sheets. When they were in the package and new they felt so smooth and silky. After washing on warm/warm and drying on low (as suggested on the label) they were like cardboard. I even ironed them on medium as suggested.

I have a set of Egyptian cotton, which are so comfortable, and a set that’s like 800 thread count. It feels almost like silk. I wash them by themselves, on delicate, and tumble dry. I also use a crap load of fabric softener and 2 dryer sheets. They still feel good and I’ve had them about 6 months now. Good luck to you!!!

Question : How can I “self repair” a somewhat HUGE rip in my outdoor patio awning?
Awning is made of heavy fabric.
Rip is probably 12-14 inches long.
It’s a “clean cut”, so thought maybe some sort of heavy glue.?

See if you can get a swatch of fabric from an upholstery shop (or an awning shop if there’s one in your area) that matches. Sear the edges to seal them, then either sew it on or use heavy-duty fabric glue.
Of course, duct tape is always an option if the aesthetics don’t bother you.

I have seen a solar pump for an outdoor pond in a home improvement catalog but have not been able to find any for sale in the Atlanta area.

I haven’t seen them here either, but I’ve seen fountains operate on solar power.
My pump gets pretty clogged this time of year. always need to change the filter.

Casablanca Delta II 50″ polished brass ceiling fan installed with Zephyr blades and an Intelitouch Zephyr motor. Just a quick video of it in its new location in my house, preceded by a Nutone hugger and Hunter Eastern shore, I’ve been wanting to put this fan in here for a long time now. For those of you who have seen it on VCF or DT, you’ll note it has a different light kit now for reasons no one really cares about. :-p Anywho, here it is. The white LCA will be replaced with polished brass as soon as I find one.

I think that maybe the quality of the blankets is the reason that they “shed.” But is there any way to treat or seal a blanket so that the down doesnt release?
The blanket itself is a thick lavender silk with beautiful floral stitching to hold in down as well as box stitched. I really like the look and feel of the silk, so it there any way to “treat” or “seal” it with out using a duvet cover or coverslip? Do launderers have anything maybe scotchguard?

You’re right; it is probably the quality of the fabric that’s causing the problem. Down needs a really high thread count and tight to weave to keep the feathers inside. Try spraying with a good waterproofing product to make the fabric less permeable. If practicable, buy a protector cover (same idea as a pillow protector) to reduce the wear and tear on the blanket.

Question : What job might be better in the long run or in the future? A bank teller or a UPS package handler?
My boyfriend might be able to get one of the two jobs listed above a bank teller or a ups package handler. Both seem like great choices because the jobs are with very good companies. Hes a smart guy and a great worker so he plans to make it his career, he doesn’t want to go back to school. Hes 23 years old would what be the smart choice to make for either job? Please any advice would be appreciated it.

Take the bank job. UPS is being out doors in all kind of weather.
With the bank job he can become management and be paid more.

Cutting corners on safety will get you into trouble if something happens. Someone’s life may depend on a proper safety net. How would you feel if someone drowned because you wanted to be a cheapskate?

Yes you can but it all depends on how dry it is, Tongue oil is usually applied to keep natural. IF its completey free of oils
light sand prime then apply 2 coats of finish paint.
On the other hand if its faded just lightly sand it and try the tounge oil, will last for a long time and look more exspensive than a painted table etc.
