it sounds like to me you should use vinyl dye instead of primer / spray paint. because you are using something that will get some impact you will need something that is chip resistant. vinyl / plastic dye actually seeps into the plastic and changes the color instead of coating the exterior. go to any auto parts store and ask them for black vinyl dye and follow the directions on the can. best of luck!

it’s a “filler” primer made by Dupli-Color commonly used on materials with a dimpled surface to help fill the gaps. it was perfect for the plastic bezel here. you can also get primer just for plastics but this worked just as well.
