Is it necessary to put a weed blanket down in a newly landscaped area?

Question : Is it necessary to put a weed blanket down in a newly landscaped area?
I recently got rid of the old landscaping and I am regrading the area to pitch away from the house. Should I put a weed blanket down or will the mulch I plan on putting down do the same thing?

Use the blanket. Weeds will still grow through the mulch.

if you do not then plan on pulling some weeds that appear thru the mulch. ..

Don’t put down a weed blanket! Weeds will grown in the mulch on top of the blanket anyway. (and even through it to the soil) The blanket makes it a huge challenge if you decide to ad anything to your landscape in th future. Save yourself the trouble. I learned from experience.

I found the weed blanket to be very expensive, The weeds(bermuda grass ) grew thru the fabric, and made it very difficult to remove. I have found that by laying newspaper down (usually 4 sheets thick) and then applying mulch I can control weeds, I still have to pull some but not as many. P.S. the newspaper breaks down and benefits the soil. I also have a very large flower bed(100′x30′) that has no blanket or mulch. I usually work in this bed about 15 minutes a night every night and have no problems controlling weeds. Gardening is a labor of love. Enjoy
