Hardwood Floor Maintenance / Fix?????
Question : Hardwood Floor Maintenance / Fix?????
We bought our house about 9 months ago and it had beautiful Brazilian Redwood Floors. I know nothing about flooring, but this one has a glossy finish. The floors continued looking great for the first few months, then they started to dull and show light scuffs. We were using Murphy’s Soap Oil Floor cleaner (said it was for hardwood floors). After about 7 months, the high traffic areas became pretty dull so we tried a product call “Rejuvinate” from Bed, Bath and Beyond. This returned the floors to the original shine, but after a day or two we noticed that they were scuffed easir and the dog left scratch marks everywhere. The scratches and scuffs are on the surface, not in the wood (I would descripe it a scratch in the clearcoat finish???).
At first I thought the wax/finish would wear off and we would be back to square one, but it isnt wearing off. I dont think you have to refinish hardwood floors every six month, so how do I fix and maintain this beautiful floor??
thanks

take a look at the link below. from what you describe it sounds like you have a floor that is “waxed” rather then with a hard “poly” finish. i would do some research and try to find a hard wax that would stand up to the traffic you have in your home.
My boyfriend does hardwood floors. I have experienced the same problem when using Rejuvinate. Don’t use Murphys oil floor cleaner or Rejuvinate. You may need to have someone screen and coat your floors and after that use a light mop with water only. Don’t get the floors very wet. You could even use a dry mop to wipe them dry after you clean them with a damp mop. This will reduce any water spots or smears. You could also try the Bono X cleaning kit. The directions would be on the packaging.
