Do I need to wash/dry clean my brand new down comforter if I plan on using a duvet?
Question : Do I need to wash/dry clean my brand new down comforter if I plan on using a duvet?
I bought it at a discount retailer (like Anna’s Linens) at an outdoor tent sale so it seems more sketchy to me then if i had bought it at macys or something…Im going to use a duvet with it, but it seems like it might be a good idea to wash it before i use anyway..especially since i was touching everything in the store to get a feel for it and who knows how many unsanitary hands have done the same…
also the lady at the store said shes instructed to tell everyone to dry clean only but i have been washing my old down comforter in the washer and air drying it for years without an issue…plus it only cost me $ 50 so paying $ 25-40 to have it dry cleaned seems silly….not to mention people reporting that dry cleaning it can leave it with a strange chemical odor..

If that thought of hands on your comforter bothers you, wash it. Also it was outside and may have picked up pollen. Wash it. I’m with your, I wash mine.
You could spray Lysol on it, the one in the aerosol (sorry if that is misspelled) can. That should kill the germs that are on it. People touch the outside just that’s what you need to disinfect so spray some Lysol on it and let it air out some to get rid of the scent.
I spray Lysol on my mattress when I change my sheets.
