Carrier Furnace 58SS Flame Sensor / Pilot Assembly Problem

Turned out that this was a pilot assembly issue. I cleaned it (as others had suggested), but then the problem got worse. After replacing the pilot assembly (0 part retail) the unit is running fine.

I have the same problem it turns on and off but the clicking noise is coming from the gas valve

It was the Flame Sensor/Pilot Ignitor…I replaced it later that day and the furnace has run great since.

Thanks for the heads up…I’m looking to get HVAC in here ASAP to resolve that issue. I have not turned on the system yet.

Get a qualified servivce tech to fix the furnace. By now I assume you did, good luck.

Th knock is called ‘oil-canning’ it’s caused by the ductwork expanding and then contracting with the blower pressure.
Common when thin improperly installed and manufactured ductwork is made and installed.

I have the EXACT SAME furnace. It came w/the house I bought just a few years ago. I do not have this particular problem (just a knock I would hear in the ductwork after the heater shuts off), but works well otherwise.

Were you able to get this problem corrected?

that thing you tapped on is the ignition module. check the wiring…make sure all the connections are good. It a good chance that the module is bad. You need a tech.

its loosing the low voltage to the gas relay in the gas valve hince the clicking sound try cleaing the flame sensor located on the device your tapping its a little metal rod that sits infront of the piolt flame
