How easy is it to fit hard wood flooring on split level room?
Question : How easy is it to fit hard wood flooring on split level room?
We have inherited an extension which steps down, by about 3-4 inches, from the existing living room, so is in effect a step. We want to replace the carpet with hard wood flooring, probably laminate. Is this easy to do, given the step, or would it be an opportunity to level the floor with concrete and eradicate the step?

Here’s a laminate flooring install guide: Its not too bad to do it on stairs, if you are thinking of making this a DIY project. It has it all there, all the info:

I assume the step down is a concrete slab. It can be a bit pricey to level depending on the size of the area to be raised. You have to take into account all electrical wiring, sump and drainage. It would definitely be a good time to level if that is within your budget and it is possible. It is not necessary though. You can treat the step as a step and install a stair nosing at the top of the step and face the step with the laminate using construction adhesive. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
