I hate my pillow top mattress! I would rather have the softness in a removable source.
Reason…You can only turn a pillow top mattress one way. You can’t flip it over. After five years with my pillow top (and it is a name brand expensive one) there are ruts on the sides and a lump in the middle.(not a weight issue , I’m 125# and my husband is 180) I’ve tried to get our rather large dog to sleep on the lump to flatten it down but nothing is working. My $ 2000 15 year guarantee mattress set will soon be replaced ten years early with one that I can flip over to even out the wear.
The pillow top attached to your mattress is either made of foam, memory foam or normal mattress matting. They cannot be detached for cleaning as they are attached to the mattress.
The ones you use like a fitted sheet can be a polyfil bed, a feather bed or a down-top bed…and, you can also buy memory foam to put on top of a mattress. If you don’t want night sweats, stay away from the synthetic materials ie: foam, memory foam, polyfil (polyester filling). Your natural products (feather and down) are a lot softer and breath really well. You can also take them off to air them out, or if they get soiled, you need to dry clean them.
