Decorating dilemma:When putting up a faux or real ceiling medallion, what’s the size relationship to a fan?
Question : Decorating dilemma:When putting up a faux or real ceiling medallion, what’s the size relationship to a fan?
I bought a rather-expensive wallpaper medallion (made by York) to put up on the ceiling of my daughter’s room. The idea was to cover over a dull area where the ceiling had to be retouched after a smaller-base-diameter fan was installed. The mediallion is 36″ in diameter and the ceiling fan (including the blades) is 52″. I can cut the ornate wallpaper smaller if that would actually look better. It would be time-consuming but still look good, I think. Is there a rule of thumb for the diameter of the medallion to the width of a ceiling fan?
The diameter of the fan’s base plate is 6″.
Sorry but I have reread pinkdenia’s answer a few time now and I don’t get it. The medallion, of course, is bigger than the base plate. The paper medalion was bought to cover up the flat finish around the circumference of the new and smaller plate. Perhaps this answer could be restated for me.

No, not to the width of the entire ceiling fan (blades included). Just make sure the medallion is bigger than the base of the fan (the part on the ceiling).

Just so long as the width of the fan, including the blades, is not the same as the medallion, it should look fine.
