What can I use as a barrier so I don’t get wet when I shower my child in our handicap shower?
Question : What can I use as a barrier so I don’t get wet when I shower my child in our handicap shower?
We have a one piece unit handicap shower and it works great except for I get soaked when I shower my son. I’m wondering if anyone knows of any shower doors that are made for handicap showers that maybe only go half way up so you can still stand behind them and shower a child. Or maybe someone has found something creative that has worked. Any ideas would be great!!!! Thanks

Good old fashion garbage bag works wonders. or a rain.
With the garbage bag just rip a hole at the top that does not open and 2 on each sides for the arms. Works very well.

Instead of using an overhead shower sprayer, install a hand-held sprayer which you can direct onto your child in the stall. If you have the water turned on forcefully, you will still get some spray-back on you. So back off on the force of the water that comes out of the hand-held sprayer. This should help you get less wet.
Another idea is to make an inquiry at a Nursing-Home or at a Hospital as to the kind of shower set-up they have available for use with invalids. That may give you some ideas, as well as some names of the manufacturers. Then go on-line to see what else that company makes and/or sells. Good luck to you!

Hi Browneamy, I am answering under a different profile, I did say I would help you. I have found a website for you http://www.heatandplum.com only thing is that it is in Britain. Don’t know where you are I think this is what you are after. It is called, portable folding screen, quite expensive though. Trying to think of something else you could use.How about 2 sheets of perspex or acrylic sheeting and wooden frames painted with gloss paint, with a hinge to join them. The ones I have used were made of white pvc, but they were supplied by social services. Do you have a double glazing firm near you, they could maybe make them for you, with perpsex instead of glass. Hope you find something from what I’ve said. I know how frustrating it is to need something to help your son and you can’t get it.

This may sound silly… but why not use a rain suit? Rubber boots, pants and if necessary, a jacket? (You can find any of this type of gear at a farm supply store, safety equipment supplier, or even construction equipment suppliers.)
Another option would be to make a folding screen… you can use plexiglass, and cpvc plumbing to assemble it.
Good Luck
