Another issue is good rugs require good wool from healthy sheep. The regions with ample grazing for sheep are already in the Rug Business

Yes, the middle east’s major export is oil. Without oil, the economies would dry up.
For a country’s wealth to be generated, something has to be produced, or a product/resource has to exported.
America has enough oil to last over 100 years without importing a single drop from other countries.
