I need help wiring an industrial type ceiling fan in my garage.?
Question : I need help wiring an industrial type ceiling fan in my garage.?
I need a hand getting my ceiling fans wired again. Previous owner had them wired and they didn’t work right.
Switch has:
M – Grey
A – Red
L – Black
Fan has:
M – Grey
A – Red
N – White
(The fan leads run up the stem of the fan and hook into junction box)
I have 3 solid copper wires going from switch to fan and I obviously need to tie in power somehow (Black, White, Ground) which is up by the fan.
Any clue how to wire this?

Your best bet is to find the manufacturer of the fan and go to their website. Many times there will be tech sheets or a wiring diagram available. Usually they will color code the wires and they will simply connect together.
Well is there one or two wall switches to control this are is it wired direct with a chain like ceiling fan in a house?
This makes a difference if there are wall switches.
A grey wire is not standard house wiring so I would check with the manufacture of the fan for wiring.
Dealing with electricity without proper knowledge is a little risky better left to the pros. I hate to give advice to someone and then your house burns down because of some odd device or wiring i can’t see.
There are lots of web sites if you search for ceiling fan wiring that will show you how to do it.
Please be careful and make sure power is off and test it with a meter to make sure before touching any wires please.
