I think people should forget about CFL bulbs and go right to LED bulbs. Led lights are more energy efficient, last longer and they contain no mercury either. I bought some good LED bulbs from home depot called Ecosmart Led bulbs. They cost around $20, but they will last for a long, long time and are better for the environment.

I believe that CFL bulbs would last much longer if the CFL bulbs had large air circulation cooling holes in the base of the bulb to cool off the bulb’s power electronics circuitry. The CFL electronic components circuitry operate at too high of a temperature, and that is why the power electronics frequently burn out and smoke up a room with burnt electronic component smoke ( and that is not mercury smoke, but which may also be poisonous ). I have had many CFL bulbs smoke up the room&no air holes.

He should have smashed the damn thing on the HOUSE floor to make a point. It would have been nice to watch the HOUSE close for a while so the EPA could come in and clean up the toxic mess.
Then, after they try to punish him for doing such a dastardly thing, he should have asked why they would be forcing those things onto the American public.
BUT THEN AGAIN…I’M A CYNIC!

TREK, how about just using whatever light bulb we want. He probably forgot to mention a bit more factors about the CFLs but he only has a certain amount of time to speak. He pretty much got the point across that the government needs to stay out of our business. i personally enjoy incandecents because it gives off warm light. LEDS and CFLS, in my opinion give off horrible light. i will keep stocking up on incandecents until the phase out, just like thousands are ppl across the world are doing.

He forgot to mention other problems with CFL lights . Dimmer problems should not install in enclosed fixtures or use with light sensors or electronic timers all will reduce life and lumens or candle power so you have to up the wattage. And if you want the light to last its estimated life you nead to keep the cfl on for at least 3 hrs wasting the electric you are trying to save. WHY not just go to LED lights ?

Funny how he doesn’t mention that fluorescent bulbs are already everywhere. they are in most household kitchens, in nearly every single warehouse and office building. Heck, the lighting in that room he is talking in probably has fluorescent bulbs lighting the place.
You can also include that most older thermostats and barometers have mercury in them, and a good amount too, not a tiny bit of it.
What about the toxicity of batteries? Do you follow proper disposal for your remote battery?

Hey, c’mon! CFL’s are deadly toxic! Last year I dropped & broke one – every living thing within an 18 mile radius of my house died. In fact, I died from it after 30 hours of excruciating pain!
To think these things are not dangerous is almost as crazy as thinking we could have a president who would spend 150 million of taxpayer money just to keep his records private so there is no proof he was legitimately born in the US!
oops…
Once again a liberal congress tries to grab power! -

look ahead here too guys. Like the congressman said, these CFL contains mercury. Now there will be lots of broken bulbs by mere human error, and un proper disposal due to uninformed ignorance, and so our water supply will go into a red alert of toxicity after about 8-10 years. And by this time, he who controls the clean water supply will be king. Water will be worth more than money pretty soon.

Haha! If they try to enforce it, I hope the American people will speak up and put a stop to it. It’s so ridiculous it makes me laugh. I hate those CLF lightbulbs; they take so long just to turn on. They also produce an ugly white instead of yellow glow and often produce a buzzing noise, emit UV rays, and contain mercury. In my opinion the 25% or so savings in power is not worth the several downsides. They’re only practical in industrial and some, but not all, commercial settings.
