What is all about furniture design? Is it only for furniture designer?
The first furniture designers Association was established on 25th October 1917, where it formed its first constitution and by-laws. However, it was in 1916 in Grand Rapids, conceptualized as the city famous for the production of furniture from a local producer Robert W. Irwin. He wanted to promote a good relationship between the manufacturer and the furniture designer. He then arranged a meeting between the two groups, which was successful to say three of the furniture designer William L. Kimerly, J. Stuart Clingman and Thomas Handley determined an association for the benefit of both the designers and the manufacturers form. They encouraged local furniture designers to join the club. Thus the Grand Rapids Association founded Berkey and E. Jones was appointed chairman, the owner of William A. Berkey Furniture Co., together with eighteen qualified designers and all members of the Furniture Manufacturers Association have been selected as the contract approved members.
Membership
The membership of this association was limited only to local furniture designer from Grand Rapids. In 1920, the restructured Furniture Designers Association and the membership was given to all certified designers in the United States. Originally, the associate membership to the suppliers and will be given later to furniture design students. The need for good prospective forced many designers pull out the form Grand Rapids. Currently, there are many furniture designer in Grand Rapids, the organization primarily for the market of the Southern Furniture Market in High Point, North Carolina.
Principles
In 1926, Thomas Johnson, the then President, to cooperate that the aim and purpose of the Grand Rapids furniture designer and the work is to standardize the welfare of furniture designs and constructions. The club is currently working on the furniture design standards stabilize and friends to educate and work in the field of furniture designers. It has about 90 members and this has led to more frequent meetings, usually five in one year. The best student of the last year, Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University in the center of Grand Rapids is $ 1,500 awarded every year in December.

American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD)
It was founded in 1981 as an international non-profit professional association. It works to improve, support and promotion in furniture design. The membership is limited not only the American furniture designer, but also international professional designers, a member of the American Society of Furniture Designers has become.
Chicago Furniture Designers Association
The Chicago Furniture Designers Association founded, the art and craft innovative furniture designs, by promoting the community of designers and device makers. The meetings are held on every second Tuesday of each month. At the Chicago Furniture Designers Association meet designers and exchange of ideas and information on furniture designs and makes to expand its expertise. The club also organizes exhibitions for certified members. Finally, the association promotes the work of designers to expand their interests in furniture design.
