Year Round Ceiling Fans
Ceiling fans can be used all year round. Ceiling fans are not only to cool a room during the summer months. If you have a ceiling fan in reverse in a room with a stove or fireplace, you can keep the warm air evenly distributed throughout the room.
Before you try to have a ceiling fan installed, make sure you purchase the correct size ceiling fan for your space. To find out what size you need, measure the largest dimension of the room where you set the ceiling fan. If the largest room dimension is less than 12 feet, with a 36-inch diameter fan. From 12 to 15 feet, a 42-inch size ceiling fan is best, and 15 to 18 feet, choose a 52-inch size ceiling fan. For very large or long narrow rooms it is best in two smaller fans used.
Put up a ceiling fan is not difficult. Most ceiling fans have a new installation hanging hook built into the ceiling. If you are an existing light on the ceiling, this should work in two halves cut. Turn off the entire electrical energy to the light, not just the light switch. If not, someone could walk into the room and switch the light on the accident as a matter of habit.
Remove the existing light and you get a junction box behind it to find. If it’s a metal box, go to the attic and brace with 2×4′s between the ceiling beams. If there is a plastic junction box, it is best to replace it with a stronger metal. The fan is canopy cover and hide the box. Attach the fan bracket to the junction with the screws in your ceiling fan kit available.
To wire the ceiling fan, the color of the fan wires are the colors of the wires that were connected to the light match. In general, black is the hot side, white is neutral and green is a ground wire. For safety, do not forget to connect the ground wire.
Next, lift the ceiling fan up and off of the hook and slide it up on the bracket. Turn it so that the screws are locked in the fan slots. Tighten the mounting screws. Place the knife and you’re done installing your ceiling fan.
