Fluorescent Light Bulbs Over Regular Light Bulbs

0

A regular yellow light bulb is also known as the incandescent light bulb. These light bulbs utilize a thin layer that is made of tungsten. When the electricity passes through this layer, it heats up until it becomes fully hot. This heat produces the light coming from the bulb. Aside from the light, the bulb also produces plenty of heat. Technically, this is a waste of energy. The attempt to reduce this waste of energy resulted to the creation of the fluorescent lamp. These light bulbs are energy efficient. Unlike the regular light bulb, fluorescent lamps do not use tungsten to produce light. A fluorescent light bulb utilizes a different process to produce light. It uses electrodes on both ends of the tube of a fluorescent bulb. A river of electrons flows in the gas from one electrode to another one. These tiny electrons collapse in the mercury atoms and ignite them. As the mercury atoms alternate from ignition to inactive state, they produce ultraviolet photons. These particles called photons bumps into the phosphor coating of the tube of the fluorescent bulb. This phosphor activity produces the visible light. A fluorescent light bulb can produce the light equivalent of four to six incandescent light bulbs. For example, a 20 watt fluorescent light bulb gives of the same amount of light as an 80 watt incandescent light bulb. The good thing about fluorescent light bulbs is that they produce a smaller amount of heat. They can give off between 60 and 110 lumens per watt. A lot of homes all over the world have chosen to use fluorescent light bulbs over incandescent bulbs. They produce bright white light and reduce energy consumption. They already available in stores and they usually come with a three month warranty. You can buy them in different lumens. One unique part in fluorescent light bulbs is the starter. A fluorescent light will not work without a good functioning starter to complete the electrical circuit.

Antique Lighting – Very Rare, Mid 18th Century, French Faience Table Lamp

0

The French 18th century saw the full flowering of decorative art and France led the rest of Europe in artistic expression and high style.   It was in the region of Marseille that saw the production of some of the most beautiful examples of French faience.   “Faience” being the French name for tin glazed earthenware,

known to the Dutch and English as “Delft” and “Majolica” in Italy.

One of the most outstanding of these manufactories was opened in 1740 by Claude Perrin (1696-1748) & when he died in 1748 it was his widow,

Madame Pierrette Candelot, who took over the management of production. This alone, in the middle of the 18th century, was considered highly unusual.

Under her leadership production flourished, especially the quality of the flower painting.   With outstanding foresight Madam Perrin enrolled her faience painters in French art academies to develop and refine the elegant style of flower painting that we can see today.   Painting on faience was notoriously difficult, the painter using the glazed faïence surface as the canvas.

The French 18th century was the century of the Rococo and floral painting was expressed in this beautiful style.

The style known as “Décor Floral Naturaliste le Grand Fleur” is naturalistic, although not botanical, informal and yet with a sense of formality.   Flower painting of loose bouquets of summer flowers, small sprays and sprigs, quite often with moths and butterflies, ladybirds and caterpillars and it is known that many of the painters picked bunches of flowers on the way to work as models for the day.

The majority of pieces produced are marked with the letters “VP” the initials for the French “Veuve Perrin” which means Perrin’s widow.   Madame Perrin died in 1793 and production continued, although in decline until 1803.

The manufactory struggled through the violence of the French revolution which finally saw the collapse of the Rococo “Déco Floral”.

“A very rare, mid 18th century, French Faience vase as a table lamp of great charm.   This is an early example of the Faience of Claude Perrin of Marseille.

The lamp delicately painted in a bright palette of enamels with a large loose bouquet of summer flowers and garden insects. The flowers include pink and yellow roses, forget-me-nots, daisies and morning glory. The lamp on a 19th century French ormolu base of Rococo style. ”

These summer flowers are 260 years old and still as fresh as the summer of 1750!

Will Flex Track Lighting Fit Your Décor?

0

Flex track lighting is one of the most stylish, functional and versatile lighting options today. So if you’re looking to remodel or build your new home, make sure to consider install this lighting option as it has become more beautiful than ever. Also known as monorail, it is curved and coiled into a straight runner instead of inserting it into the fixtures.

Decorators and homeowners delight in this lighting system because it can maximize the light stream options by turning the runner itself. Various models are bendable and customizable to suit specific needs and home settings.

Its flexibility makes the lighting unit the perfect choice for highlighting artwork, plants and other home decors; overhead expanse lighting, task centers such as the countertops and workshop table; and provide dramatic for the dining table and entry table.

If you want to create a much more dramatic ambience in a room or to focus on specific artwork, flex track lighting is the best choice in creating the down light. For houses that need to create an illusion of more space, this light can provide wall illumination as well.

It’s so versatile, stylish and fully functional that most homeowners think that the installation would be difficult. You’ll be surprised to know that most of its models are easy to install.

Before installing, you need to consider the power sources. Usually the best solution available is hardwiring into the area’s junction box in order to avoid a cord run across the ceiling and down the wall to an outlet. After that, you need to take into consideration the amount of voltage required.

Probably the most adaptable is the line voltage as it accommodates both the line and low voltage fixtures. If you want a brighter light and consumer less electricity, then you had better take the low voltage.

The drawback about flex track lighting is the fact that the transformer may burn out. Many complaints have been received due to this but transformers are easy to replace. Now that you know the advantages and disadvantages of this type of lighting system, you should be able to determine now which one to use on your house upon remodeling or building it.

LED Lights for Motorcycles – the Basics

0

Motorcycle accent lighting is becoming ever more popular.   These lights are beginning to show up on everything from the smallest, least expensive, scooter to the “big bucks” choppers and everything in between.

If you’re thinking about taking the leap and lighting up your ride, there are some important things to keep in mind.

First, quality is everything.   For most things in life, you get what you pay for and motorcycle LED lights and accessories are no exception to the rule.   Make sure the light products (pods and strips) you buy are waterproof, come with sufficient lead wire for ease of installation, and have a Lifetime Warranty against bulb failure.   Note, however, bulb failures are rare in the higher quality products, thus their ability to offer such a warranty.

Second, make sure the wiring for your LED lights is independent of the wiring for the rest of your bike.   This will ensure your factory warranty stays in tact.   Modifications to existing wiring are likely to void your warranty.

Third, make sure you get the right products for your bike and the right products to achieve the look you want.   Most reputable dealers are available to take your calls and are willing to discuss your needs with you before you make the purchase.    Motorcycle LED light products come in different shapes and sizes, different casings (usually chrome or black), and many different light colors.   Not all light products are right for all jobs.

Fourth, don’t underestimate the importance of the accessories.   Make sure fuse holders and switches are waterproof; industry proven bonding tape is used (3M VHB tape is recommended); and an adhesion promoter is also provided to increase the bonding strength of the tape.

Fifth, make sure the system is such that additional lights can be easily added in the future should you decide to do so.    You may want to start out lighting your engine first and add ground effects or wheel lighting later.   You want the add-ons to fit within your current LED lighting system and be easily accomplished.   Plan ahead “just in case”.

Whether having your motorcycle LED lights professionally installed or buying the kits or individual units to install yourself, doing your homework ahead of time will pay off.

Remember, your bike is a reflection of you so it’s best to do it right the first time.

Outdoor Lighting for Illuminating Landscapes

0

When it comes to illuminating landscapes, outdoor lighting is essential. Your choice of outdoor lighting is more than just an extension of your exterior design. Outdoor lighting is a significant factor in ensuring that your home is safe, brightly lit, and secure. To begin with, you should consider choosing outdoor lighting that provides ample security. Floodlights are highly recommended, as this type of outdoor lighting will provide the light needed for clear and easy visibility. You can attach floodlights to exterior walls and angle them in a variety of different directions. You can point them towards patios, walkways, garden areas, or anywhere you feel you need a clear line of sight.

In addition to floodlights, you should also consider adding lights to your front porch area, perimeter of your yard, driveway, and any walkways that you have. Post lights are a wonderful addition to any landscape and are a very popular outdoor lighting choice. They look magnificent and come in a wide variety of decorative styles and designs. These lights are designed to withstand the elements and are perfect for adorning your front porch or to be placed on either side of your front door.

Late night visitors will appreciate the time you took to place outdoor lighting alongside driveways and walkways. These may be low powered lights that are staked into the ground, or lights such as bollards that are crafted from various decorative materials and provide plenty of illumination. When choosing outdoor lighting, there are so many styles and materials to choose from that you can easily select lighting that complements and enhances your exterior décor.

One area in particular that requires the adornment of outdoor lighting is the garden area. You might want to consider adding a spotlight to the back of your garden. This will illuminate the entire area and ensure that those who come to visit will enjoy the full beauty of your late night garden. You can also use outdoor lighting to create special effects in your garden as well. If you have a particular plant that you would like to showcase, you might want to install floodlights and direct them towards your garden or particular focal point. Additionally, you can also add spotlights to highlight certain plants, or other objects that you would like showcased. When thinking about the garden area, you’ll find that using imaginative lighting techniques can enhance your outdoor environment and turn your garden from a plain backyard to a beautifully lit oasis.

A great advantage to outdoor lighting is that you can always add more. This is true if you are having a party. Adding decorative lighting to a porch, patio, or swimming pool deck area for the duration of a party is a great way to ensure that your guests have a wonderful time, are safe, and have easy visibility to make sure that their entertainment is unhindered.

No matter what your outdoor landscape consists of, you can make certain that your home’s exterior décor has the lighting that it needs to allow visitors the ability to move freely and comfortably, while also adding dramatic effects by using light and shadows interactively. By experimenting with the elements of outdoor lighting, you can rest assured that your home’s exterior will not only be illuminated, but also magnificent.

Lights For Us offers a wide range of outdoor lights. The company has many different styles of lights available, ideal for brightening up your garden, patio and decking area. Visit the website for inspiration!
