How to clean after putting out a fire with a fir extinguisher?

Last night my oven went on fire and I had to use a fire extinguisher to put it out. Now my ENTIRE first floor is covered with the residue! How can I clean this up? I wiped it all down and it is still covered. Please Help!!!

Call a local construction/ remodeling company who does insurance repairs. They use a special chemical to get rid of the smell and handle clean ups like this on a large scale all the time. Like a ServePro type of company.

The clean up is the worst part. You’ll need to use a detergent. Detergent, water and elbow grease is the best remedy. It sounds like most of the mess is the chemical from the extinguisher. I assume you used a dry chemical extinguisher. This stuff can be heck to get cleaned. There are special products, but they are pricey. I included a link.

You might try emailing or calling the manufacturer of the fire extinguisher. They’d be the experts to provide the exact information you’re looking for. The cleanup will differ depending on the type of chemicals in the residue, and what surfaces you are cleaning. But the people who build the extinguishers would know the correct way. There should be some manufacturer data on the extinguisher to help get you in touch with them.

If you have insurance, you may want to contact your agent and see about having professionals come in and clean the residue. They have access to chemicals to clean up homes after a Fire Ext. discharge or a fire. Your insurance may also help with the cost if you need to replace your oven.
