How can I make a steel floor lamp look less modern and more “country”?
We got two floor lamps for free from family for our new place, but I do NOT like the “modern” or “comtemporary” decorating scheme. Is there any way to “country-up” these all steel lamps?

You can find them on the target site if you search for metal floor lamp glass shade
(if my link didn’t work)
I don’t know, use some kinda paint on the steel? The shade is okay, it’s just ALL THAT METAL/STEEL!

I would probably sponge paint it and wrap Ivy up it.

What if you painted it to give it a “rusty” effect? That would be sort of rustic and country, if that is your decor. I think that would be pretty cool.

What you can do is to try to paint it a little rustic. Go to home depot and let them know what you want to do. If anything, go to a lamp store and get an idea of what you might want your lamp to look like. It would be easy to paint and you would probably only need two colors like dark brown/cream or something like that to creat a rustic look and feel.

You can buy spray paints or other special paints that will adhere to metal and not chip off. I would suggest painting them a matte balck finish to make them look like wrought iron. I believe you can take the metal shade off and buy different shades that you like. (I’ve done it with similar lamps)
You can buy plain white shades and decorate them yourself, or buy pre-made decorative ones. If you want to do it yourself, you can use items from nature, like real flowers or fake ones and decoupage them to the shade. If you use real ones, make sure you use a good sealant to cover them once you’ve applied them to the shade. Then, for the base, buy fake ivy and wind it all the way up around it to the shade. You can keep it in place with balck zip ties that will blend in easily.
Hope you like my idea!

First paint the lamp and shade a color that you like. Try using a texture spray paint to make it look like weathered metal.
Then use a very small drill bit or punch to drill holes in a pattern on the shade. (Like a lincoln star or a heart) It’ll be like an old time tin punch when you turn the light on.
