Is it important to carry a backup camera along with your regular one?

I’m looking into buying a new bag and debating whether or not to get one that will be roomy enough to carry my D300s and D40.

If you have a backup camera you may not want to have it in the same bag. Think about if you camera gets stolen. Now you have to backup camera because that was just stolen too. I think having a backup camera is only 100% necessary if you are a professional shooting for a wedding or other important event.

I can not see any valid reason to carry two camera bodies in one bag unless you are carrying one for a friend or partner, or if you are a working professional and need a backup if one happens to break.

Otherwise there is absolutely no point!. Just take one body and the appropriate lenses.

Depends on what you do. For like a wedding or something, carrying a backup is a REALLY good idea. If you’re just shooting around though, it’s probably not worth the extra weight.

You carry two cameras when;
You are being paid to make the images
You need two lenses to make the images you want
You need two types of images, think black and white and color and you do not want to take the time to fiddle with the settings all of the time..

Your a long way from home and if one camera goes down you will not be able to make images.

Hope that helps you decide if YOU should carry both cameras..

If you are a pro on an assignment then absolutely you need a backup.

If not then no. You could always just have a decent point and shoot with you as a backup.
