How do I keep my cat from jumping on my drapes?
He’s got a nasty habit of getting revved up in the morning and in the evening about the same time each day, and he eventually winds up tearing through the house and hanging from the drapes six feet up. We’ve tried squirting him with water. We’ve tried slapping his butt. We’ve even yelled at him. He knows he’s not supposed to, but he keeps on doing it.
Any suggestions?

If possible, use tension rods instead of drilled into the wall rods. The tension rods will simply fall down on top of the cat if it tries to climb them. Otherwise, take the drapes off the hooks and thread them back up with thread just barely strong enough to hold them up. When the cat climbs up, the drapes will fall down on it (be sure that the hooks aren’t around to potentially injure the cat). After the drapes have remained up for some time, re-hook them. These methods have the advantage of working whether you’re home or not.
Vertical blinds can work very well; cats cannot climb up them, cannot shred them, cannot shed on them, cannot be bent the way horizontal blinds. It is furthermore easy for cats to push them aside to look outside. Vertical blinds are usually vertical strips of plastic, but they can also come covered with different fabrics to match your decor. These kinds are still pretty indestructible.

Try SoftClaws nail caps. He won’t be able to climb up the drapes because they cover the nails with a soft, rubbery cap. He also won’t be able to claw anything else, which is handy if it is an indoor cat, but dangerous if he roams around outside. He will eventually learn that he can’t climb the curtains and forget about it, but it may take a while.

There are numerous things you can do.
1. After he climbs the drapes, give him a light, but firm tap on top of his head.
2. Rub another cat’s scent on the the drapes. That will definitely make him stop.
3. Spray some sort of perfume onto the drapes. This might not work. Make sure the perfume doesn’t annoy you!
