In a time where it’s okay for guests to wear black or white to a wedding (white upstages the BRIDE & black is for night/formal weddings & mourning/funerals), your blue dress will be perfectly acceptable.
Besides, YOU just so happen to know the color of the wedding party–how many guests usually know that and will avoid it!? Very few! So of course it’s fine. Just not black or white according to eons of wedding etiquette.

This happened to me once, completely by accident. I wore a navy blue linen dress to a wedding, and the bridesmaids’ dresses were also navy. I must say I was surprised…this was several years ago and I wasn’t used to the newer trends in bm dresses…some even wearing black. So, anyway, it was fine. I don’t think anyone really noticed…at least nothing was mentioned. It was one of the loveliest weddings I have attended…at the War Memorial in Gross Pointe, Michigan. Just stunning!

I would have to say…don’t wear it. Try and find another dress. It sucks that the one that you like is the same color, but I say don’t do it.

I think it’s fine as long as the dresses aren’t so similar that you’ll be mistaken for a bridesmaid. Maybe consider an accessory that will clearly set you apart- a scarf, earrings, necklace, bracelet, even you’re purse, or maybe a flower in your hair.
The only mistake you can make is wearing the same color as the bride!

I think it is perfectly ok. Blue is a very popular color and if the dress doesn’t resemble the bridesmaids then it is fine to wear it.
