I am planning to install ceiling fans in my house. Is it worth to spend this much money on this project?
Hi I am planning to install ceiling fans in my house. I calculated the price of material & labor and it comes out around $2000 expense. Is it worth to spend that much money? If I sell my house, will this be considered a good upgrade and will I get that money back?

Definitely!
I know that if I was buying a house and it didn’t have any ceiling fans it would be a negative for me.
Also, you could probably get the money back in savings you would have on your energy bill.
If you’re worried about the initial upfront cost, then take some time and shop around. Check to see if the Habitat for Humanity has a ReStore near you. You can get your material there for a good price.
Good luck!

Ceiling fans are usually a good investment. They can save energy year round if used correctly.
$200 sounds a bit high. A cheap fan can cost as little as $30/ea. Nice fans start around $150. If you have any electrical experience at all you can install them yourself! It only gets a little complicated if you have 2-way switches to deal with.
What your neighbors have or don’t have is irrelevant! Unless they hang so low as to be a hazard, ceiling fans will add to the value of your home.

2000 is on the steep side of this upgrade if you ask me. It should be no more than 1000.00. It’s not a heckuva lot of work to install one properly if you have a decent contractor.
That said, yes it is worth getting ceiling fans, and although some here have said it is an eye sore, believe me it’s not. It can be a very important part of your interior design if you get the appropriate look for your decor.
As for selling your house in these economic times, I would suggest you forget about recouping costs for now, and just grab a ceiling fan to make your room cooler in the summer and hotter in the winter.

I would not spend this money in hopes of recouping it. Personally I would see this as a negative if I was purchasing a house because I would have to get all new lighting fixtures. I would view this as uneven heating/cooling of the home which would send red flags to me..but of course this would depend a lot where you live.

Hi, I think that they are a great upgrade to your home and enhance the comfort of your home. They can save you up to 40% in air conditioning costs and 10% or more on your heating which is worth it in itself.
There are great designs to choose from that can enhance a rooms decor.
They can cost less than a 75 watt light bulb to run. Whether you get your money back or not depends on the market. You will get your money back on energy savings but don’t buy them if this puts a strain on your budget. Hope this helps.

If the fans are good quality and you are in a climate where they help year round, the investment is worth it. I think they add value to a property – I know they ask if you have them when you get homeowners insurance, so they are considered a special replacement expense if there’s a fire or other disaster. I love my ceiling fans.
