How does a heat pump adjust the humidity in the air?
Can a heat pump actually adjust the amount of humidity in the air, or is a separate humidifier/dehumidifier unit necessary?

removing moisture is part of the way a heat pump cools…so as you remove moisture you lower humidity.. when you pass warm air over a cool surface this causes moisture to condense on the coils…..if you live an very damp place you may need to use a dehumidifier also…In heat cycle they do not dehumidify the air inside your house

When you run it in air conditioning mode, the cold coils condense out some of the moisture in the air as it cools the air (just like any air conditioner). For most people, this effect is enough, but some people may need to reduce the humidity in the air more. Then you need a dehumidifier.
When you are runninig it as a heater, the warmer air off the coils has the ability to hold more moisture then it did before you heated it, so humidity automatically goes down. That is why people often use a humidifier in the winter to bring the humidity in the air up and make you feel more comfortable. -

It will cool the air in the summer as it takes out some of the moisture. Depending on yur conditions and size of heat pump you may need suplimental dehumidification
